The SGFG club has got off to a fantastic start as the pictures show.
Tomatoes and squashes are bursting from the first bed, assembled and planted up by the young people on the estate. Herbs and seedlings are also showing due to the residents really mucking in and constructing a further four beds. The Initial scepticism that the beds would be vandalised within days has now been replaced by optimism and exiting discussions around what types of crops may be grown.
Mark Rogers Community Development Manager says: “its amazing how things have snow-balled and how many residents want to be involved and think that this is a really good idea.”
Three more beds are due to be assembled on Saturday 15th August, which will then be followed up by a series of workshops around growing techniques and capacity building delivered by Tara Jeewoonarian from Groundwork UK. Culminating food swap day and farmers market on the estate at the times of harvest.
