Volunteering for a career
Circle is also devoted to offering employment opportunities to local residents. Amina Begum lives in Bow and is an Old Ford Housing Association resident. She started working as a volunteer at Old Ford three years ago and is now an Advice and Guidance Worker for the organisation.
Amina Begum Amina has achieved the Advice and Guidance NVQ level 13 qualification, funded by Old Ford, and is now studying towards the level 14 qualification. She is adamant that without the volunteering opportunities that Old Ford has offered her, she would not have been able to get the experience needed to do the job she wanted to do.
“It has just been amazing and I cannot say enough good things about the chances I have been given by Old Ford. I learnt so much in my time as a volunteer and it enabled me to progress to become a full time employee. I love my job and I love being part of an organisation that makes such a difference to people’s lives.”
