Norwich sheltered housing residents raise over £520 for East Anglian Air Ambulance

The 35 Margaret Crescent sheltered scheme residents recently organised a fundraising afternoon tea event in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance and raised a total of £523.13.

Around 50 people from the nearby community attended the successful event, which was officially opened by the Mayor of Thorpe St Andrew, Russell James. To raise money the residents organised a variety of delicious cakes, scones and homemade jams, which the guests could enjoy together with a cup of tea or coffee. There was also a big raffle, with many exciting prizes donated by local shops.

EPIC Trust, part of leading affordable housing provider Circle Anglia, manages the sheltered home in Thorpe St Andrew. Resident Margaret Wilkinson (78) said: “Accidents happen every day and we all need to help where we can. This was a worthy initiative from all the sheltered scheme residents and it’s great that we could raise such a big sum; it will do a lot of good. We were overwhelmed by the support and generosity of local people and would like to thank everyone who contributed; together we can make a difference.”

Resident Joan Williams (73) said: “The homemade cakes, scones and jam were very popular. I was also very pleased that, as a result of the IT Training we are offered at the scheme, I was able to design, type and print out the Air Ambulance invitation. This worked really well and I’m so happy I could use my newly gained IT and organisational skills to raise funds for my late husband’s favorite charity.”

Kay Tyers, scheme manager for EPIC Trust, said: “Our residents and staff are passionate about helping each other and people in need. It was great too see everyone working together to make the event happen. We are really proud of what our residents have done.”
