Business Action on Homelessness are currently running a ‘Ready for Work’ programme. The programme is open to those who are homeless, or have been homeless in the past two years. This includes those who have been living in hostels, supported accommodation or have experienced unsecured housing e.g. living with friends.
Those on the programme are given support to build their skills and confidence to re-enter the job market, including receiving pre-employment training, work experience placements and post-placement support.
To apply for the programme you must be referred by an agency (e.g. hostel, employment programme etc). You must have been in contact with them for a sustained period, usually for at least three months, in order for them assess your eligibility for the programme.
Your agency can then fill in an application form with you providing you are eligible to work in the UK and have been deemed ‘ready for work’ (i.e. alcohol, substance misuse and /or mental health issues must have been under control for a sustained period of around 6 months).
For more information on this initiative, agencies are requested to contact the Work Inclusion Broker, Charlotte Aldridge via email or telephone 0121 451 2227
