"RESPECT"

The government's 'Respect Standard' tackles anti-social behaviour - teaching and encouraging people to have acceptance and tolerance of others.

What is the Respect Standard?

The ‘Respect Standard’ is a cross government strategy tackling anti-social behaviour and its causes. To reflect this, the Respect Standard for Housing Management was developed for social housing landlords to assist them in tackling anti-social behaviour across their estates.

Merton Priory Homes (formerly Merton Council Housing Department) signed up to the 'Respect Standard' in October 2008, and by doing so we committed to and ensuring we meet the six core commitments set out below:

  1. Accountability, leadership and commitment
  2. Empowering and reassuring residents
  3. Prevention and early intervention
  4. Tailored services for residents and provision of support for victims and witnesses
  5. Protecting communities through swift enforcement
  6. Support to tackle the causes of anti-social behaviour

Anti-social behaviour can be anything from noise or nuisance, to incidents of violence and intimidation. Under the Respect Standard, Merton Housing department will:

  • Provide support and advice to residents affected by anti-social behaviour
  • Work with the police, the Councils Safer Merton ASB Unit and other groups to deal with those causing the problems.

We will also work with residents to find solutions to give everyone the quality of life they deserve.

Signing up to the Respect Standard for Housing Management re-affirms Merton Priory Homes’ commitment to ensuring that incidents of ASB are dealt with efficiently and effectively.
