For the next three weeks, the estates management team is targeting four estates in Merton with a high number of dog owners. They will be handing out flyers and free poop bags to encourage dog owners to ‘Bag it & Bin it’. Stickers and posters are also being put up to raise awareness of the dangers of dog fouling.
Glenn Burnell, Merton Priory Homes Estate Service Manager, said: “We are passionate about enhancing the life chances of our residents and are committed to create a better environment for people to live.
“Dog mess is not only extremely unpleasant but also harmful. Young children are at the greatest risk of catching avoidable diseases from the mess while playing outdoors. Most dog owners are responsible and clean up after their pets. However, we want to make people aware of the problem and are asking careless dog owners to take responsibility.”
The Merton Priory Homes promises to residents include a £129 million investment programme in homes and estates over the first ten years, £383 million over 30 years, new and improved services and a commitment to ensure that the support services meet residents’ needs.
Dog owners who don’t clean up after their pets risk being issued a Fixed Penalty Notice, which can be up to £80. Residents who witness cases of dog fouling should contact Merton Priory Homes on phone 0300 500 3000.
