Community Farm Project

Work on the Links Play Farm Project at St. Johns School, Dorking got off to a flying start last week. A 22 strong team of volunteers including local residents, Mole Valley Housing Association, United House (MVHA’s major works contractor) and Burleys (MVHA’s grounds maintenance contractor) met at 9.30 am to begin work on the growing area of the farm.

Farm project The volunteers split into teams to make the frames for the planting beds, remove the grass from the planting areas and moved 15 tonnes of top soil into the planting frames once they had been put in place. At 9.30am the sun was shining but by 11am it had started to rain and the rain stayed for the day.

Despite getting wet and muddy, the volunteer team had a great time and managed to build all of the planting beds, including a raised bed accessible to wheel chair users.

The day was supported Star bucks by who supplied the volunteers with much needed coffee, and by St. Johns School, who served up an excellent lunch of salad, jacket potatoes, sausages and baked beans.

Farm project Thanks to everyone who took part. It’s great to see this project come to life and work can now begin on planting fruit and vegetables.
