Young people carry out tasks in their neighbourhood that make improvements for the community. They get points for each task they complete and at the end of the project they can exchange their points for a reward of a trip out.
“What I liked best was that when we do something, we get something back. Lacie Corbett, DreamScheme participant
Last year we ran the DreamScheme in Dorking and Leatherhead as a pilot project. It was really successful, with over 90 young people taking part.
A number of tasks were completed, including litter picking, fixing broken fencing, holding a tea morning in a sheltered scheme and running a community car wash.
The project was run by staff and adult volunteers who were supported to play a key role working with the young people. The volunteers received training and said they gained new skills and self confidence and really enjoyed taking part. Some have continued with formal training working with young people.
This year DreamScheme is back and being supported by the Dorking Schools Partnership, the Ashtead and Leatherhead Confederation and a number of other organisations that work with young people across the district.
It is being run across Mole Valley, in Dorking, Leatherhead, Westcott, Bookham, Ashstead, Capel and Beare Green. Alongside the DreamScheme there will also be some free activities for young people including Parkour, Dancing, Climbing Wall and much more.
Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided.
