25 June 2009 A flourishing floral display for the Cleeve Road Estate / Mole Valley Housing Association is giving away free plants to residents

Brightly coloured geraniums are adorning gardens on the Cleeve Road estate this summer, thanks to Mole Valley Housing Association.

Cleeve Road Kids Shadowed 450During June, more than 200 young plants were handed out to the children of the Cleeve Road estate by the housing association, which is as part of Circle Anglia, one of the UK’s leading providers of affordable housing. The initiative, which has been running for three years, is part of the on-going estate improvements and North Leatherhead regeneration programme.

Families in the estate were given two plants by the team from Mole Valley Housing Association, together with an instruction sheet on how to plant, water and generally take care of the flowers. Geraniums were chosen as they can withstand erratic watering and little care but will add a good splash of colour on the estate.

Julie Beach, Area Housing Manager at Mole Valley Housing Association, said: “The scheme is such a success every year and we get a great response from the residents. This is a good way of introducing young children to gardening and teaching them how to nurture plants. It is lovely to see how many talented young gardeners we have on the estate and who knows, maybe there is a new Charlie Dimmock amongst them.”

Thanks to the colourful success of the initiative, Mole Valley Housing Association is hoping to continue to hand out plants to its residents again next year. Interested residents can contact Julie Beach on phone 01306 505 514 or email julie.beach@mvha.org.uk.
