Residents young and old braved the plummeting temperatures and gathered around Christmas trees for a seasonal sing-song. As Christmas lights were switched on, festive fruit punch and mince pies were served to all.
Michelle McSorley, community development officer for Mole Valley Housing Association (MVHA), said: “More than 200 people from the communities attended the festive events and had a good time singing, laughing and even making new friends. It’s great to see everyone come out despite the chilly weather and have fun, that’s what these events are all about.”
The four Christmas events were organised by Mole Valley Housing Association as part of their community development activities this year across Dorking and Leatherhead. They were generously funded and supported by the housing association’s major contractors: Quality Heating, United House, Cleanscapes and Burleys.
MVHA also organised two Christmas parties especially for older people living in Dorking and Leatherhead. Residents were offered a special door to door transport service to make sure everyone in the community could come along to the lunchtime celebrations which were generously funded and supported by local Councillors Stephen Cooksey and Tim Hall. The parties saw more than 75 people enjoy an excellent buffet lunch as well as a selection of songs by a local entertainer.
