Construction Training Initiative

Old Ford delivers a comprehensive vocational training programme as part of its commitment to the local community. The Construction Training Initiative (CTI) runs from Old Ford's two award winning construction training centres based in Bow, East London. Our Services - what we can offer you

Old Ford's Contruction Training Centres are recognised by the London Borough of Tower Hamlets as a local provider of vocational training. We provide trainees with an award winning service - the Construction Training Centres has been awarded the Construction Excellence Award for Leadership and People Development in London and the South East.

Key Stage 4: Engagement Programme:

Trainees spend six months working towards the City and Guilds Multi-skills in Construction qualification, undertake First Aid and Health and Safely training and are entered for their CSCS Health and Safety cards. On completion of training, assistance is given to trainees to gain work and college placements. This allows progression to trade specific NVQ Level 2 and into employment

This programme is open to all Tower Hamlets secondary schools and we can also take referrals from other boroughs. This project gives school pupils the opportunity to study vocational training alongside traditional academic subjects. Year 10 and 11 pupils from local schools can attend Old Ford’s workshop two days a week for either one or two years to develop skills which may lead to a career in construction.

Case Study

Delroy Bailey, originally from Jamaica, moved to England in the year 2000. After a few years working in various odd jobs he learned about the Construction Training Initiative run by Old Ford Housing Association and upon hearing of the project he then joined the 20 week Adult Programme; his dedication, enthusiasm and hard work while attending the CTI project ensured him an on site placement with Apollo Construction where Delroy is now employed full time as a painter and decorator.

Delroy Bailey

As well as the CTI scheme, Delroy also benefited from the Information, Advice and Guidance services which is also being run by Old Ford Housing Association, the services which were offered to him were directly responsible for helping him to gain his CSCS card and thus proving his competence in the construction industry.

Delroy said: “I feel privileged to be given a chance like this and to have the opportunity to move forward with my career in construction. I will never forget Old Ford and I will always remember the help given to me by Leanne Baxter (Training and Employment Manager) Old Ford is a special place to me.”
