Overview of adaptations service

Do you have problems moving around your home? ...We are committed to providing adaptations to help you to live safely and independently in your home. Find out the answers to frequently-asked questions below.

What is an adaptation?

An adaptation is a change that we can make to your home to enable you to live more independently.

Am I eligible for any adaptations?

Adaptations are carried out for residents that are disabled or in poor health and finding it difficult to do things around the home. We will look at cases where Adaptations are needed for other family members on an individual basis. To be eligible for any adaptation you must be named on the tenancy or be the parent or guardian of a child and the property must be their main residence.

Are there any costs involved?

No. Roddons Housing Association will coverall costs for works deemed necessary by our Occupational Therapist.

How do I get an adaptation?

In order to get an adaptation you may need to be assessed by an Occupational Therapist (OT). This is to make sure we provide what you need. To request an OT assessment you please contact our Customer Services Centre on 0800 111 6447 (if calling from a landline) or 0300 333 6557 (if calling from a mobile), to complete a telephone assessment. Once you have completed a telephone assessment we will aim to contact you within ten days to explain the next steps. In most cases an Occupational Therapist (OT) will visit to assess your needs.

What if I want to move to a different property?

If you would like to move to a different property you will need to complete a Home-Link application form. For more information please contact our Customer Services Centre on 0800 111 6447 (landline) or 0300 333 6557 (if calling from a mobile).

Can I have Adaptations and be considered for a different property?

Not usually. In most cases, once we have completed any major adaptation to your property (for example, level access shower, ramped access, widening of doorways) we would expect you to stay for a minimum of two years. We would remove you from the Housing Register during this time.

While you are waiting for a property that is more suitable for your needs we will try and carry out some minor adaptations (grab rails etc) while you are waiting.

Can I go back on the Housing Register if my circumstances change?

You will need to contact our Customer Services Centre on 0800 111 6447 (landline) or 0300 333 6557 (if calling from a mobile) and we will arrange for an OT review. If the OT confirms your circumstances have changed considerably you will be asked to complete a new Home-Link application form.

What should I do next?

If you think you are eligible for an adaptation you can apply to Roddons Housing Association, or someone can apply on your behalf.

If you contact us about an adaptation we will respond promptly. We will tell you more about how the adaptations process works.
