Roddons Housing runs 15 Sheltered Housing Schemes across Fenland. We believe that the decision to move into sheltered accommodation should not be seen as a loss of independence. It is more like a move away from isolation and towards independent living with vital support available when necessary.
All but one of the Roddons schemes have been designed to provide empowering independent living, allowing tenants to live in self sufficient homes, but with the security of knowing that help is at hand should it be needed.
Somers Court (an extra-care scheme) is managed by the local Primary Care Trust and provides additional care for tenants needing 24 hour support. There is also a flat available to allow rehabilitation after hospital treatment, prior to a patient returning to their own home.
Our main aim is to provide secure, sheltered living for elderly and vulnerable residents. Sheltered housing is not simply about alarm systems and on-site support; a great many of our residents took the decision to move into sheltered housing because of the social life and circle of friends they could make.
All of our residents enjoy daily visits Monday to Friday from the scheme staff to make sure they have no general problems. However when we ask them what they enjoy most about living in sheltered schemes they tell us it is the social interaction and security.
