The first winner of the Good Neighbour Award was Maureen Baker from East Peckham who was nominated by her friend and neighbour, Doris Houghton.
A panel of tenants judged the entrants and selected Maureen as the winner for the kindness, help and support she continuously offers to her neighbours and her contribution to the local community.

When describing some of the reasons why she nominated Maureen, Doris said: “She is always cheerful and gets our milk and papers everyday and if a doctor calls she comes round to see if we have a prescription to take to the chemist, nothing is too much trouble. I don’t think we could have stayed living here if it wasn’t for Maureen. I know she helps other people as well.”
