Major work
For larger adaptations we involve the Occupational Therapy Bureau and the Local Council's Grants Officer, who will undertake a financial assessment to see if a Disabled Facilities Grant can be awarded. Income and savings will be taken into account in asessing how much grant can be offered. We can co-ordinate the work on behalf of the tenant.
The key steps in the process are:
- A referral to Kent County Council's Occupational Therapy Bureau (your Area Housing Officer or Housing Support Officer can do this for you).
- A visit from an Occupational Therapist, who will identify the adaptations that are needed.
- A referral to the local council, who will assess eligibility for Disabled Facillities Grant.
- Preparation of plans and a specification.
- Obtaining estimates for the work and submitting a formal application for Disabled Facilities Grant.
- The adaptation works themselves, which will be supervised by one of our surveyors and 'signed off' by an Occupational Therapist.
