Residents set to celebrate festive season in new homes

Families waiting for affordable homes in Bishop’s Stortford should be in brand new properties by the festive season, as a multi million pound development in the town nears completion.

South Anglia Housing’s £2.4 million project in Plaw Hatch Close has reached a key milestone with nine of the 18 new homes finished last week.

The completion of these new homes marks the end of phase one of the project and people from East Herts District Council’s waiting list have already been selected to move into the properties, which consist of four flats and five houses.

The project, which started in January, involved demolishing two blocks of flats and three blocks of garages and replacing them with eco friendly homes complete with solar panels which will reduce residents’ energy bills.

South Anglia Housing has employed construction company Hill Partnerships to build the properties and residents from Bishop’s Stortford and surrounding villages will move into the homes completed in phase one of the project next week. It is expected that the remaining homes will be completed and ready for residents by the middle of December.

Tracy White, managing director of South Anglia Housing, said: “This development gives people who are in need of housing the chance to live in new affordable homes and we are pleased to be able to give them this opportunity, especially at this special time of year.

“Affordable homes are in great demand in the Bishop’s Stortford area and that’s why South Anglia Housing picked the town to complete its largest development project of the year.”

Peter Lacey, a regional director at Hill Partnerships, said: “We are delighted that we have been able to complete these new homes ahead of schedule for South Anglia Housing. It is great that the residents can move in before Christmas. Our site team worked with Circle on the previous Plaw Hatch project and we have used their experience and expertise to deliver another great project.”

The £2.4 million scheme has been funded in partnership with the Homes and Communities Agency and consists of six two bedroom and eight three bedroom houses as well as four two bedroom flats.

Two of the homes have been specially adapted for wheelchair users and each includes a specially adapted wet room, covered car port and height adjustable kitchen worktops and units.

As well as the new properties in Plaw Hatch Close, South Anglia Housing is also set to complete another seven affordable homes in Firlands, Bishop’s Stortford, by the new year.
