South Anglia aims to work with residents to make sure the areas around your home are safe and pleasant. Below we have set out the estate standards which we and our contractors are required to meet.

Keeping your Estate clean and tidy
South Anglia’s service will include the following:
- Cleaning of internal and external communal areas every one or two weeks, depending on the area
- Remove offensive graffiti within one working day
- Other graffiti is removed within 7 calander days
- Keep all areas on estates free from bulky waste and litter
- Quarterly cleaning of communal windows
- Make sure that communal areas are properly lit
- Check the cleanliness of estates monthly
- Take legal action against anyone damaging our estates.
South Anglia is in the process of installing new communal estate notice boards which will have information about how frequently your estate is cleaned. You can also speak to the staff that you see on the estate or call South Anglia Customer Services Team on 0845 600 1543 / 0800 694 0159 / 01279 714714.
To keep our estates clean and tidy, residents should:

- Keep entrance lobbies free of obstruction including storage of buggies, bikes, bins etc.
- Not store goods, bikes, prams and other personal effects under stairs or in service cupboards.
- Not dump rubbish on shared areas of the estate.
- Keep pets under control. Dogs should never be allowed on South Anglia estates unless on a lead.
- Clear up pet faeces immediately.
- Not chain bikes, buggies to railings, downpipes or store in any communal area except for those provided for this purpose.
Recycling and rubbish collection services
The council will collect your rubbish and recycling on a weekly or fortnightly baisis. To find out which day your rubbish is collected you can ask a neighbour or phone your local District or Borough Council on the number listed by clicking on the link below. When disposing of household waste, please:
- Put your rubbish in the appropriate bin or black bin liners where appropriate
- Wrap sharp objects safely and wrap food waste in plastic bags
- Recycle paper, cans and glass in recycling bins (on estates and throughout the borough/Authority)
- Consider having a compost bin in you have a private garden or wormery if you don’t have one to reduce the amount of food waste in the rubbish bins
- Call the Council's/Authority 'bulky' waste service if you have a large item for collection.(Charge may be applicable)
- Do not put unwrapped food in rubbish bins or down rubbish chutes
- Do not use rubbish chutes between 10pm and 7am as the noise may be considered a nuisance.
Open spaces and communal gardens.
We will:
- Keep walkways and roads clear from overgrown plants
- Maintain trees on estates and communal areas
- Cut grass every 2 weeks between March and October (monthly between November and February) - grass cuttings will be removed from the site
- Regularly maintain shrubs or plants so that they are attractive and healthy
- Find the best planting solution for each location.
If your home has a private garden, you must:
- Keep it tidy and free from rubbish.
- Make sure that plants do not become a nuisance to your neighbours.
- Apply for permission before making any changes such as putting up a shed or conservatory or laying a path or patio.
- Not use areas set aside for people without their own garden, for example to dry your washing.
Parking
South Anglia is responsible for some roads and a number of parking areas on our housing estates. Where parking restrictions apply the rules are clearly displayed on the estate.
We will:
- Take action if you report a car that is breaking the rules
- Remove untaxed (including SORN), abandoned, illegally parked or vehicles not displaying a valid permit.
Lifts
If your lift is not working, please report it to Customer Services on 0845 600 1543 / 0800 694 0159 / 01279 714714.
Anti-social behaviour within lifts is particularly unpleasant for other lift users. If you are aware of any such behaviour, please contact us in confidence via either our Anti-Social Behaviour Team or by letter or telephone 0845 600 1543 / 0800 694 0159 / 01279 714714.
