Equality & Diversity

Wherry is committed to ensuring that we promote equality & diversity in both the workplace and to our residents through the services we provide.

What is Equality & Diversity?

Equality is about ensuring that wherever possible, individuals or groups of people have fair access to the same opportunities.

Diversity is respecting that individuals and groups have differences and in order to provide equal opportunities, services and processes may need to differ to ensure that we are not discriminating.

Legislation dictates that we should pay particular attention to the needs of individuals and groups that have the following protected characteristics as these have been identified as often being subject to discrimination:

  • Age;
  • Disability;
  • Gender reassignment;
  • Marriage and civil partnership;
  • Pregnancy and maternity;
  • Race;
  • Religion or belief;
  • Sex;
  • Sexual orientation;

In order to set out what we do and intend to do in order to achieve this commitment, we have developed a Single Equality Scheme (2009 -2011) and an associated action plan. These can be found below:

Each year, we will produce an Annual report that sets out our progress, we have just completed our first Annual report which can be found below:
