Wherry's Independent Scrutiny Panel (WISP)

The Scrutiny Panel is made up of Wherry residents who meet regularly to look at particular areas of Wherry’s services. They ‘scrutinise’ the service by looking at performance information, speaking to staff and residents then comparing the service with other organisations. They then make recommendations on how Wherry can improve the service for residents. Their reports are considered by the Wherry Board and, hopefully, the recommendations are adopted.

How do they know which areas to ‘scrutinise’?
Way Ahead with Wherry, the landlord wide residents’ group listen to residents at Patch Panels and other forums to find out what the big issues are, and then they suggest which areas the Scrutiny Panel should look at.

Groups of Wherry residents (such as Residents Associations or Patch Panels) can also ask the Scrutiny Panel to ‘scrutinise’ services by raising a ‘Request for a Scrutiny Review,’ For more information, please speak to the Resident Involvement Team on 01603 595140 or email us on wherryinvolvement@circle.org.uk

What has the Scrutiny Panel done for Wherry residents so far?
To date, the Panel have looked at Wherry’s Anti Social Behaviour service and the Complaints service. They made the following suggestions which have been adopted by Wherry.

• Wherry to hold some focus groups with residents who have made a formal complaint about Wherry. Following these focus groups Wherry have reduced the timescales for handling complaints so residents get a much quicker response.
• Remind staff about how residents can raise an ‘Expression of Dissatisfaction.’
• Wherry to hold some focus groups with residents who have been involved with ASB cases to help identify ways to improve the service.

Current Scrutiny Panel members are Rob Duhig, Sheryl Atkins, Roy Offord, Terry Moralee, Emma Martin and Lianne Mills.

Who can become a member of the Scrutiny Panel?
Any Wherry residents can! We’re keen to hear from anyone interested in joining the panel. If you’ve think that you could work as a team with other residents or if you fancy a go at interviewing staff and interpreting data then we need you! And if you don’t have these skills then don’t worry, we offer training to support new residents to get involved and it will look great on your CV.
