Mow and grow scheme

From the 1st of May Wherry will be working in partnership with Mow & Grow to deliver a sustainable garden service to residents who are unable to maintain their garden due to physical or mental health issues, a long term illness or disability.

Mow and grow scheme

The scheme will cost:

  • £15 for a one off garden clearance
  • £3.71 a week for a regular garden maintenance service (6 visits per year)

To qualify for the scheme, residents:

  • Must not have any household members or relatives living near by who are capable of maintaining the garden
  • Must receive a form of disability, injury or long term incapacity benefit
  • Who are not in receipt of disability or health related benefit, must have a health problem or disability that makes it difficult to maintain their garden.

If you are interested in receiving help with your garden or want to know more about the scheme just give us a call or send an e-mail and ask for your Neighbourhood Officer to visit and carryout an initial assessment. Click here for our contact details.

The work will be carried out by Mow & Grow and all of the green waste is shredded and turned into compost. Mow & Grow recruit and train voluntary workers to undertake community based gardening projects. Volunteers can gain valuable work experience, skills and qualifications in horticulture through a specially tailored volunteer training placement.
